Lil'Gun loads?

I just got notified that I won one of the Weaver drawings on Facebook for a four pound jug of Hodgdon's Lil'Gun powder. Does anyone have any positive experience with this stuff in the Schuetzen world? I'm shooting 32-40 CPA with 200 gr. bullets for the most part. Thanks!

Personally, I found its good for reduced plinking loads, but not for great accuracy. It's great for introducing new shooters to larger calibers. It will make my 45-70 feel like nothing

I'm interested in hearing takes on Lil Gun use in .32-40 also, for "our" standard 200 yard shooting via 185-200gr. bullets. I too have a fairly serious pile of the stuff and at this point only use it for .22 Hornet (killer-diller at 13.0gr. + 40 Vmax). Curious minds want to know!

David,
Both Tom and I shoot this in our 32-40's, Tom shoots a 180 gr pill, I shoot a 204 gr. from a modified Lyman mold I did.  Our scores don't reflect great results this last weekend at Davenport but that's more of the shooter getting in the way of better performances.  Grin
I believe my starting load was around 9.5 grains and from there I've went to the dial reading for notes - on the Harrell's - watching the chronograph readings, case measurements, primers, and target performance.  It meters well in the Harrell's. The list of particulars for my load development is long that I pay attention to.  I haven't recovered pills from the sawdust box, or gelatin tub yet but dug a few out of the mud bank with nothing to note on the bullet bases. Nothing from pressure trace indicated issues at 1300 fps the one time I bothered with that.  We both only breech seat with no intention of loading fixed so none of my data is warranted for that.  Tom shoots an original high wall and mine is a Storie Ballard casting, my striker breech block and a BRC barrel.

Another associate of mine goes about his reloading methods differently and has had some poor experiences with pressures and results using Lil'Gun.  He is a huge naysayer in it's use but his expectations are far different from mine so I've heard considerable stories about problems.  This isn't a small case in comparison and we're not shooting jacketed bullets trying for extreme velocities and fancy terminal results.
Be vigilant and Lil'Gun performance may surprise you.

Thanks, Greg! When we were at Davenport last weekend, I hadn't checked my email for a day or two and didn't realize that I had lucked into this powder.  Smiley
