.22LR Bullet Drop From 100 to 200 Yards?
Sep 17th, 2025 at 5:35pm
Print Post
This coming weekend I'll be headed for the range to establish a 200 yard zero for my .22LR for the upcoming .22 National Match in January. From what I've found online, it looks like I'll need to add elevation for about 40 inches to go from my 100 yard zero to be on at 200 yards. Does that seem about right to you guys who shoot .22LR rifles at 200 yards?
Thank you in advance for any help.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

A full turn should do.

Jeff is right. A full turn should get you on paper.

on my .22 with a lyman 6X scope, from 100 to 200 I have to come up 29 minutes. My 100 setting on the lyman mount is 131 and the 200 setting is 190.
Hope this helps.

Sam,

Are you sure about the 29 minutes?  I've been shooting .22BPCR for many years & my average adjustment from the pigs (100 meters) to the rams (200 meters) is 18.5 to 19 MOA.

BTW, I use a 6X scope with a 7.2" base spacing.  At the last match my 100M setting was 0.046" & 200M was 0.083".  0.002" (2 marks) of adjustment is 1MOA.

I do get around 28 to 29MOA from the chickens (50 meters) to the rams (200 meters).

Randy,
My numbers come fairly close to Wayne's, slightly more elevation because of barrel length and/or ammo choice.  I shoot both silhouette and schuetzen and my dope doesn't change much, occasionally a change in density altitude requires a tweak once in a while, there will be some for me I bet this winter at BA for the match.  Wink
A Ballard, RKS barrel, 1:12, LH, GT, 30", Lapua Center-X, Lyman 10x STS, 7.2" base centers = 100 yd setting .032", 200 yd setting .074", constant velocity measurement with a Bullet Seeker 1047 fps ave.  Two lines = 1 MOA so my come-up is 21 MOA.
I'm assuming you are shooting a scope?

Yes, I shoot that .22 with a scope (Hi-Lux Malcolm 20X). It's a Cody Ballard BR rifle for Schuetzen. For Schuetzen we shoot at 100 yds but the upcoming .22 National Match has an event at 200. I need to establish a 200 yd zero so I can get in some practice before the match.
Thank you for the elevation info.

Another way to get on paper at 200 is to place 2 targets, one above the other, at 100 yards.  Place them with the centers 14 inches apart.  After you get center hits on the lower target, increase the elevation until you get center hits on the upper target while aiming at the lower one.

18 m.o.a. and 14" It seems like both paths lead to being on at 200 yds.
Thanks guys.
I'm looking forward to shooting my .22 at 200.

Randy remember your point of impact will differ between your barrel resting on the sticks and shooting off of a rest. I would suggest get on paper off of the rest and then fine tune off of the sticks.
Btw the target you have worked up for the match looks great!

Thanks for the tip about shooting off X sticks. I haven't fired a rifle of sticks in many years. I'm gonna need to get in some practice between now and your match  Wink
