I couldn't get my latest crop of large bore  Martinis to shoot well enough to hunt with, so fell back on my Ruger No.1  450/400 3 NE.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Wow!  That looks to be ONE NICE BEAR!!  Congrats & well done!

I had a #1 in 450/400 and really liked that cartridge.  I'd still like a double in that cartridge

Great photography makes big game bigger looking.

Really only good medium size bear.  The last bear I killed was 1982.  That bear was a 6' 6" square sow.  That rug fell apart years ago.

This bear only squared a 5' 8".  It was a sow also.

Wife wanted a bear rug, so I got her one, or will next spring when it is ready.

This hunt was with my son,  and a sorta of replacement for this gun.  I bought this rifle to take to South Africa for Cape Buffalo.  Age and health cancelled that idea.

My son's bear was 6' 1" square

I have now taken feral hog, whitetail deer and a bear with this gun.  Some say overkill, I say good blood trail.

Always nice to hunt with a single shot.  I have a Ruger #1 in 7mm Krag Improved that I like to use when I know that the range will most likely be 250 yards or more.  Did you use a cast or jacketed bullet?  I like that "good blood trail"  Tom
