Ballistics software..????..?

Quickload... vs.  Gordon's Reloading Tool,  et.al

My goal is to find powders that shoot most efficiently at minimum pressures in a couple of rifles.

There have been several interesting threads recently on smokeless in old rifles, as well as single vs. double base powders etc.

These discussions have revealed a number of considerations heretofore
I had not thought about.

So if any of you have used either "Gordon's Reloading Tool" or "Quickload", which of those would you recommend or any other program that you can suggest.

I use both.  Sometimes they agree with each other, sometimes they don’t.  Sometimes they agree with published data, sometimes they don’t.  They are a powerful tool when used properly, but sometimes give you nonsensical load data.  Just apply some common sense  Wink

I haven’t looked at GRT in a couple years, but the big difference the was available cartridges in the data base. Quickload has many “obsolete” cartridges pre loaded and I’m not sure if it’s still available, but NOE bulletproof files could also be installed on Quickload. For those two reasons, for old single shots and cast bullets made more sense.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I use GRT and agree with Dellet, there's still not a lot of data for old cartridges at GRT. But I can find cartridges there with similar case capacity and enter data to make my own results and that works well. I've never bought Quickload, so haven't used it.
GRT takes time to figure out how to enter all the specifics it asks for, but after that it has worked well for me, and the price is right. Free.

THANKS to all for the input..!

I'm going to start another thread (because I believe it is warranted) about a YOU Tube Channel which I believe
many will find informative which relates directly to
the specifics of reloading.

It's called "Little Crow Gunworks."
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Tim, the channel producer, has a lot of great information on everything reloading from demystifying which groups of powders relate to categories of cartridges, to how the burn rates relate to load density's etc.... Great stuff.

His delivery is a bit on the monotone side but the content, I believe is worth reviewing and book marking for future reference.

BTW, he uses Gordon's Reloading Tool exclusively.
