VALUE OF A STEVENS 44 1/2

I have a Stevens Model 44 1/2 Model 51 that has been in the back of the safe for years. It is time to find a new home for it and I need some advice as to the value. I have attached photos to indicate condition. Searching the internet I see that values vary greatly. I have been watching some on Guns International for quite some time and they don't seem to sell very often. I am guessing that they are priced too high or that interest has fallen of. The rifle is chambered in 32-40 with a very good bore. The DST work as they should and the finish is original on the metal and wood. Everything is original and unmolested right down to the sight, I know there are members on the forum that are a wealth of information on the Stevens rifle. I appreciate any and all feedback. I have additional photos if that would help

I am far from an expert in Stevens, but I would price that rifle at $3500.

As you note, they are maybe slow sellers, you're competing against CPA, and their draw is that they're current, supported, have replacement parts, and can have additional barrels readily fitted (as can this rifle, of course, but people don't think that way).

Nice rifle.  I'd pick it over a CPA.

I've been watching the auctions, $3500 is a little high, but one must figure in auction fees of 15-20%, plus the standard BS. I would be interested in this rifle once you decide on a price, please PM me. I will be off the net for the next 2 weeks, it is hunting season here.

I agree with ssdave that $3000-$3500 seems fair for a Model 51 44-1/2 Stevens in that unusually high and original condition.  I'd also pick your original over a CPA.

Agreed, I have bought and sold a few over the last 2 years (mostly bought but my daughter doesn't really need to go to college anyway). 3-3500 is the range but even at a conservative 15% buyers/sellers commission on a 3250 sale that means the buyer is looking at around a little over 3700 plus tax/shipping and the seller is looking at around 2750 not including whatever it costs to get it to the auction house. I guess the point of that is to find the end user yourself and both of you come out ahead. My 2 cents Regards, Chris

Agree the estimates above. Key your end is how much it cost to sell. I sold something through a dealer I know well recently. Reduced commission 20% 2500 sale, net to me 2000 and fast settlement . Have another at an auction house up for sale soon. estimate 1200-1700 commission 25 %  with his settlements averaging 60 days

Took a rifle to the club match Saturday with my hang tag and a discounted price. No shipping cost but did require state FFL transfer. No takers,it’s going consignment next week

Through this forum much better option, none of mine were/are single shots.
