Back from Allen Springer and ready to checker

Print Post
MVA 1885 action with SST and pistol grip. Shilen Match Grade barrel chambered in 7X57 Rimmed. Wood from Kenn Womack, turned by Treebone Carving. Barrel sights from NECG and a MVA tang. Scope is a Unertl Small Game 6X. Being a personal project it took a considerable length of time to complete. Allen did an exceptional job on the rust bluing and color case. The stocks will ship off tomorrow to Maryann Hockenbury for a nice point pattern checkering pattern. I hope it shoots as well as it looks.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Absolutely gorgeous! Al is the best, and only person I use for CCH and rust bluing.

That is a unique feature on the breech end of the barrel...

It's actually needed on some actions when fitting them with lightweight barrels that wont be large enough at the breech end to have a shoulder to butt up to the receiver. Some leave a larger ring like this, or a gradual shoulder curved up just at the receiver. Some factory Rolling Blocks had a short octagon section at the chamber area.

The barrel started as a Shilen blank. I wanted a lighter profile, this is something similar to the Winchester Model 70 Feather Weight profile but with a longer cylinder section. I received an email from Maryann  Hochenbury today that the checkering is completed and the stocks are heading back my way. I will post photos when the rifle is assembled. Thanks for all the kind words about the rifle.
