Gary Lee Gibbs left the range August 27, 2025

Lee was president of ASSRA from 2016 until 2024.  His tenure as president was one of thoughtful and reasoned guidance of the Association. He will be missed.

In addition to ASSRA president, Lee was past president of the Scott’s Old Tyme Power Equipment, a steam tractor collectors’ group. Lee was owner of Sawdust Creek Sawmill, owner/gunsmith at Sawdust Creek Shotgun Specialist, a blacksmith and a carpenter.  His handle on the Forum was ballardhepburnmich, so he liked nice rifles.

His wife Marian said he wanted to be buried sitting up with a rifle under his favorite squirrel tree. She said his ashes will be buried under that tree in a private family service, sans rifle.

I will miss Lee. I enjoyed working with him. He thought a lot about the future of the ASSRA and how to grow/promote it.

I thought he was a great guy, too.

One of the reasonable, open minded ASSRA leaders!

RIP, Lee.

Never met the man but we talked several about squirrel hunting with my 32 cal T/C Cherokee.  In my area we have an abundance of fox, grey, black and red squirrels and great hunting in the white oak woods. Lee was excited about coming over to hunt but it never happened so sad

Lee stepped up in a time of need and he carried the ball well while in office. He did not let his dealing with major health issues keep him from doing what needed to be done for the ASSRA.
