Palmer carbine and Palmer Prototype

Print Post
Hello,

Would any of you be able to help me put my hands on a copy of the W. Palmer Patent (Dec 23rd 1863) for the breech loading gun he presented to the US governement in 1864 and got him a contract for 1000 Carbines.

I am also looking for a picture and/or any information on the prototype(s) that was presented to the US Gvt in 1864.

Many thanks in advance.

You need to double-check that patent date because NO patents were issued on 12/23/1853; instead, the issuing date that week was 12/22.

Interesting carbine- many of them in our Civil War. What got my attention was the gob of beautiful Lugers in that case just behind him. Gotta be some really scarce items in a herd that size.
Thanks for the video link. Smiley

The patent date is 1863, not 53. As marked on the receiver of Palmer carbines.

I have already explored youtube and general information on this carbine. I'm trying to get the patent description and drawing, and any information pertaining to the prototype(s).

Edit: found a better picture, and the date is Dec 22nd, 1863. Managed to find the patent number 41 017.

Many thanks Bruce.

I'd had no luck so far finding it, even with the right date and the patent number  Sad

I'm sorry to have fat-fingered the patent year when making my comment.  The year was indeed 1863. (Blush, blush!)

Oh I had misread the marking on the gun anyway... you were right about the Dec 22nd date!  Smiley

Where could I find more information on the prototype of this carbine?
