New die set scratches the brass
Aug 26th, 2025 at 4:28pm
Print Post
I received my new CH4D 40-60 Maynard die set today. Took out the sizing die, lubes several brass and pushed it up into the die. Out it came with scratches completely around the brass top  about 1/2” down from the top.
Called CH. got nice lady and she said it might be my brass. Huh? Told me to mic it and send them an email and they would check their spec sheets. Huh?
I suggested I send them the  die, the two scratched cases and two untried. Said ok.
What am I missing? Huh 😂

Someone at CH4D clear on the concepts involved?

How do we know that humanity isn't just a race of tame primates, domesticated by dogs to serve their purposes?

You did clean them well first, right?

Yes I cleaned them. First time I’ve ever spoken to a lady there. Not sure what’s up. Really a crazy answer.

It happens a set of dies that missed the final polishing step. Are they carbide ?  They will make it right I'm sure they have a good reputation

Not carbide. I’m sure it will get worked out. But now I have to wait. I only hope it’s not the 2 years wait for another set I wanted.

I'm sure you will be made whole. I've had but maybe two sets of their dies but did own one of their presses. Their presses are beyond stout and from my less than expert eyes are very well built and very accurate,  comparable to my Hollywood presses. Not really sure why they are a back channel company with minimal promotion but nevertheless their products reside with the best and they've been in business for probably 60 years or more So get around the phone operator, who no doubt lacks the kind of info you want and I'm hoping you will be satisfied.

I have had new dies do that.
I used the red JB bore paste on a 12 gauge mop to polish the inside of the die.
Scratches stopped immediately after polishing the inside of the dies.

Thanks. I’ll get some and give it a shot. No pun intended. 👍👌😂
