Centering a Scope

What is the best way to center the crosshairs on a Redfield 3200 and Unertl rifle scope. Is counting clicks the best? I’ve purchased two used scopes and would like to center them.  Thanks, Tom

I crank it all the way down. Count clicks to all the way up then back down Clicks/2.

Why?

Are they mounted?

If they are not mounted I like to take the tension off of the adjustment springs so I move the adjustments to do that.

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.

Best center to suit your expected distances. My CPA rifles scopes need to zero from 50 foot gallery with the Rimfire barrel to 500 yards with the CF barrel. Halving the maximum - minimum does not always allow that spread.

It’s easier with a dedicated barrel/caliber, still able to zero from gallery to longest distance is the best plan.  Zip tie the scope and blocks to zero gallery Rimfire at the bottom of the adjustment, mount a set of blocks to suit as a starting point .  Then see if it will zero maximum distance and your cartridge with mounted blocks.

Also note 10 Meter and 50 foot Gallery and scope mounted high often needs a lot of elevation to compensate for rise from bore line to sight line. My clubs indoor range is 25 yards, rifles zero there not a lot different 25 to 100
