Whitney Phoenix 38/50 schuetzen rifle

It’s chambered in the Ballard 38/50 everlasting
I had RMC make 100 cases several years ago.
It is a pleasure to shoot!

Easily the most elegant Whitney Phoenix I've had the pleasure to see.  Congratulations!

Nice looking Phoenix, have you shot it much, results?

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Beautiful Whitney Phoenix!

Curious why you had special case made at RMC when .38-55 cases are  almost identical, except slightly longer?

Yes I have shot it some, not a lot. It has some tapered freebore, about .300. Borescope shows the bore and chamber are original. Shows very little wear or usage on the whole rifle.
It also has a gain twist barrel, hard to measure but it’s about 1in 24 to 1in18. It has a .366 bore. And a 2.008 chamber. I’m playing around with paper patch to groove bullets. I got it about 10 years ago as part of a lot I picked up. Never really put much time into it.
Marlinguy, it’s chambered in 38/50 Ballard everlasting. That’s the reason to have cases made, case mouth is .020 thick….
The little bit I’ve shot the rifle, it seems to be very accurate at 300yds. I was shooting a  pig silhouette with  out having a load worked up, the flyer put the group at 4.5” not sure what kind of wood it has but the finish looks original and nicely figured.
I’ll try to post some better pictures.

That is a very nice rifle Tom. It's not often that you see a rifle of that vintage in such good condition.

A stunning rifle. Amazing that it has survived all these years without being butchered.

Here’s a page from a reprint Whitney Arms catalog showing this style rifle with a straight grip. According to the information, 38 is the smallest caliber offered.

Sorry it’s not a very good picture….. Sad
