thanks to all for the input. I decided to latch on to the Ruger #1 in the 204.  I think it will be a good target rifle for my grandson one day. Right now he's doing good with 22lr's at 50 yds.

So I cancelled the order and purchased the Anschutz 64 single shot with peep sights for about half the price of $2,000. He'll have more fun with that! Wink

I received the Anschutz today. Wow, at 13 pounds that baby is really cumbersome! 
Anxious to see how it does on the bench though at 50 yds. Grin
The stock has some definate wear and tear (mostly scratches) so I contacted a local rifle stock refurbisher and it would cost me $800 for the job.
I think I'll file that away for "maybe some day." Shocked
