The Pope barrels I've seen on Winchester (and Farrow) unrifled blanks were marked "Rifled by H M Pope, Hartford, Conn".

Barrel 201 carries that marking; likely made just a  few months earlier than this rifle.

It’s left hand 8 groove.  You can see the rifling in the casting picture.

Vol 1 of the Pope Hartford books includes an ad on page 201, from Nov 23, 1899 showing the availability of .25 barrels.  They may have been available earlier and the authors just did not find an ad from that period.

It seems this one just got an atypical marking from both Winchester and Pope!
