I apparently posted twice because I didn’t see the first one take. It seems to take awhile.

If Kurt installed it, most likely a TJ’s liner.
You know, copper plated bullets leave copper fowling. There fine for hunting and plinking, but not so much for precision shooting unless you like to clean copper…..

We shot 22's at 300 yards on paper targets last fall in a match in Georgia. I was surprised at how well most of them shot with many scores in the 90's. It was not a windy day but a slight breeze moved the bullet impact. I'm sure we were all shooting subsonic ammo. High velocity ammo just isn't as good at long range with 22's. Tom Klinger was there also. Maybe he can comment.

The first place scope and iron both shot 95’s at 300yds. The top 9 places in scape class all shot on the 90’s.
A couple used high velocity ammo and had lower scores especially at 300yds.
Blair Svihra won scope
Kim Hays won iron, Kim also had a higher score at 300yd than he did at 200yd.
I believe We used the MR 2  200yd target at 300yd.

Went back to the range today for the 185 and 200 meters. Everything worked. 200 meters is a poke fore sure.
So in short. Did I have leading or an unhappy gun spirit that had visited me. I’ll never know I hope.

Stick with standard velocity ammo for long range shooting. The ultra HV stuff loses velocity rapidly and becomes unstable in the transonic zone. [/quote]

I'm shooting the Norma Xtreme Long Range at 300 and 400 yards.

It has an average muzzle velocity of 1165 fps with a standard deviation of 7 according to my Garmin chronograph.

The same ammo at 300 yards.

At long range higher muzzle velocities result in less vertical spread.

At 400 yards with an MV of 1165 with a SD of 7.5 a two SD spread above and below the average MV the vertical spread due to this variation is 9.25 inches according to the "Analytics" ballistics solver from Bryan litz.

If the average  MV is reduced to 1065 fps the vertical spread increases to 14.01 inches.

It is true that the higher MV does result in more horizontal drift due to the wind.  At 1165 fps. a one mph change in wind speed from the right or left moves the bullet's impact 5.5 inches.  At 1065 fps. the sideways movement is 5.04 inches.

High velocity 22 Long Rifles bullets do not become unstable in the transonic zone as established by McCoy and several others.  This is a myth that is simply not true.
