.22 Caliber Cleaning Rod suggestions

I am usually brand loyal. I have several J Dewey cleaning rods in various diameters and lengths. But the .22 cal Teflon coated cleaning rod is too snug and is not good for most of my .22 cal rifles.

What do the rest of you use?  All comments and suggestions appreciated.

I too seem to be brand loyal. I mostly use Dewey all brass rods. I've used the Dewey coated rods before, but it seems that eventually the coating starts to flake off and that bugs me. I also have a couple breakthrough carbon fiber rods which work well but the tip threads sometimes seem soft and get buggered making it hard to get brushes/Jags on and off. For what my opinion is worth. Regards Chris

I also use carbon fiber rods, but have the same issues with the tip threads.  Easily damaged & distorted.  They are OK for cleaning, but not OK for removing something that might get stuck, or for slugging a barrel.

I've got Dewey & Tipton rods.  I prefer the Tipton carbon fiber rods & have never had an issue during & after matches, & I've attended over 120 .22 matches in the last few years.  I've used it to slug the bore, clean the bullet lube residue during a match when changing ammo brands, & cleaning afterwards.

You might try a 20 caliber rod. I know Dewey makes them that’s what I use on my ARA 50 rifle.

Wish I could say what I use! I have all Dewey rods except my .22 rod which is a round black ribbed handle that only has ".22-.187" in white letters on the handle. I've had it too long to remember where I got it, and unfortunately no name on it. Has nice bearings in the handle to make the handle turn easily

BTW, when the rod is used for slugging the bore or removing something stuck in the bore, I screw in a small bolt to protect the end of the rod & threads.

For the last few years, I have been using a Tipton Carbon Fiber .17 cal. rod and find it to be very adequate.  Much better than the coated rods and hasn't been a problem pushing tight patches.

Joe,
I have several of the Dewey cleaning rods and like you I was fairly loyal to them, using the 17 cal for cleaning 22's.  The ends and the coating does take a beating and the majority of my Deweys look pretty rough.  I switched to the Tipton carbons a couple years ago and I do like them but as mentioned the threaded ends do wear and bend.  Again the 17 cal is where I went with those.  Most recently, within the last couple months (I think) I switched yet again.
I'm using the 20 caliber rods from "Pro-Shot".  They're a highly polished, hardened stainless rod and I've made some bore guides that I use religiously now, 22rf, 25's, and 28's.  I had to make jags for the specific calibers that fit the smaller rod (5-40 thread) - so far, the three rods I have are holding up well.  I did buy their long 20 cal rod and made it a 4 piece outfit that fits in my bottle cap shooting kit.  (as you know, anytime you have a discipline that's visited frequently, grows in components one thinks they need - this keeps things compact for that)
My 2¢
