Anybody have a copy of ,  ' Shooting The 43 Spanish Rolling Block ' by Croft Barker they'd be willing to sell. None of my old reliable book weasels have one. Never any shortage before when I let several copies go to them, but now ?

Hope I’m not being rude, but can’t post my own WTB, but if a second copy is by chance available I would dearly love to find one, thanks, Frank

Wow two shoppers both with O/Zero posts looking for the same book. When I had this book years ago nobody wanted them and now it's a ' gotta have ' printing.

I had a copy of it.  Read it and it then sold it on fleabay.  It was a good primer for someone who has never loaded BP before and was going to start with the 43 Spanish.
Do you want a book for your library or are you wanting to know something in particular?

Cheers,
Steve

Not looking to fill shelf space but looking for info on those Argentine Rolling Blocks. There is a lot of confusing info on these rifles, chambering and barrel specs. I have carbine saddle rifle I've never got in to. When some brass became available from Dave Plummer I bought some and figured this book could answer some questions. I had the book years ago in a large book buy but didn't need it then and frankly don't recall if it's even useful. But I want a copy now

I came into an Argentine RB, very clean with what appears to be an excellent bore, and some brass. Having never shot much less reloaded BPC, so I thought this book might be helpful, but have been gleaning the information I need from other sources  —

Back before the misinformation highway I bought a factory reconditioned Argentine rolling block from Ye Ole Hunter for $14.95 (c1960 or 61).   Original ammo was $5.00 per 100.   When I ran out, I reloaded with a Lyman 310 tool and a Lyman 439186 (?) bullet.  Just filled the cases with FFFg.  The .254 Berdan primers were available.  No rocket science needed.  No books or other help available so I just winged it.   Worked out fine.   You don't really need a special book for this sort of stuff as long as you stick to the original propellent.

The rollers in .43 spanish are rough on brass. Stretch them out and prematurely fail. I have not had that problem in my .43 spanish peabody.

Back in the old days, for my Peabody, I reloaded my cheap GI 43 Spanish brass using an icepick to pluck out the Berdan primers and seated the then available fresh ones using a vise. The bullets (probably 439186) came from a friend and were hand seated. The Peabody, besides being a tighter action, had a better chamber than the cheap Spanish rolling blocks of the time. My last 43 Spanish roller was one of the near mint Remington 1879 Argentines which had a nice chamber and perfect rifling but a huge freebore which I had to overcome with a custom Accurate bullet. As with all the 11mms and 43s, it is important to get an accurate assessment of the freebore and barrel dimensions as they can really vary. 439186 may or may not be correct for any rifle and an alternative is 446110. I don't know what the dimensions of the RCBS equivalent of the 439186 are. They all will take some work and burning a lot of powder but they can turn out well. The Remington 1879 Argentines have a Nock's form barrel. A lot of the cheap older ones were Spanish made at their Oviedo Arsenal. The Spanish ones marked with an "R" over the chamber were rechambered for the 43 Reformado which is a different case than the original 43 Spanish.

Need to be sure to not full length size cases for those old Rolling Blocks as they've usually got some play between the block and breech, and sizing full length causes the brass to work a lot and eventually fail. Also anneal the cases to extend case life too.
