I have a new to me German stalking rifle, caliber 9.3x57r (360 2 1/4 BPE) with mild loads behind a 208gr paper patched bullet, it shoots 8 inches high at a 100 yards. I have always aligned the top of the front sight with the top of the rear sight. Is it possible the Europeans take a different sight picture? I haven’t gotten back to the range to try a different hold. I know bullets as heavy as 300gr were loaded by the Brit’s, but I don’t think the Germans loaded anything heavier than 190gr.

The Poms only loaded the 300 grain in the much hotter Nitro Express version.
I have seen the black powder bullets from about 135 up to 215 grain.
150 grain PP or so is very common, the lighter weight and higher velocity may lower your point of impact - it may be what your rifle was originally regulated with.
