Open package

After 12 weeks of waiting my RKS barrel finally came today. It was packaged in a thin tubular box if you will. One end was open and about 4 inches of my barrel was sticking out of the box. The other end was securely closed with reinforced tape. Was the package opened at custom's maybe? I have never ordered anything from out of the country before so I have never seen this. Or could it have been damaged in transport. If it had been then you would think USPS would have closed the package in a more secure way than a flimsy piece of tape. Who knows. Would have been a shame to loose that barrel this late in the game. It is now securely in my lathe being machined...

I saw a video of the new automated postal handeling system. The packages were dumped onto a nin that fed a conveyor. The conveyor would then sort the package by zip code and then dump it into the next bin. After I saw the video, I am surprised packages arrived undamaged.

I have had damaged packages before but they are usually repaired with at least some tape. I am very lucky to have gotten it at all.

I have had both ups and usps deliver empty packages that contained barrels. Both from ebay sellers that didn't secure the package well enough for heavy rifle barrels. I was not a happy camper both times. You were lucky that your barrel arrived.

Got a package of Lyman #2 from Rotometals that came via USPS in a flat rate box. The postman left it on the porch and literally ran away. I saw him on my security camera and went out to pick it up. One corner of the box was open and the box was empty. I know lead bars had to be falling out all along it's way to me, but nobody stopped to tape up the corner. Just delivered the empty box.
