A promise made a promise kept

I finished something this past Monday I have been three and one half years (he passed oct. of 2021) doing. I had posted somewhere some time ago I was helping liquidate my 82 year old cousins lifetime collection of guns and related items. The last of the parts guns and gun parts left the estate. I met and talked with a man at my local gun show a couple weeks ago. He was interested in what I had and after driving three hours to come look at it he purchased it in it's entirety. A weight has been lifted. I made a promise to his widow I would help all I could. After many gun shows and now this it's all gone. His widow doesn't have to worry with it any longer. She was so relieved and the cash he provided was a boon to her fixed income. Moral of my story is if you make a promise keep it even if it isn't very convenient at times.

As we age out we find ourselves assisting in that way more and more. I've helped in that regard a couple times now, out of a sense of responsibility and figuring I'm paying it forward to the day my friends will have to do the same for me. Well done, sir.

Thanks everyone. The funny part is he told his wife that I would help but he never told me. I get a call a few months after he died asking me if I would help her. Of course I said yes and so I did. She told me that he had told her that a lot of his friends had died (he was 82) and the ones that were left he didn't really trust lol.. That's awful and we both had a laugh over that one. I'm just glad it's over. I'm 66 now so this has taught me one thing. Need to get your stuff in order before anything happens. He just waited too long to do so.

Very nice that he knew you would help, and you did.
I've helped liquidate three friend's gun and gun accessory estates, and only one asked me ahead of time to do so. The other two just told their wives to contact me when they got near the end.
All were huge estates as a total. Not more than 8-10 rifles, but the reloading tools, ammo, and everything else was overwhelming. When they're finally done it's a huge weight off your shoulders, but a good feeling to know you helped the wives.

I'd guess this wasn't a financial need for his wife, but she probably took comfort to have someone in her corner. Great gesture.

They weren't wealthy people so the money did help. She had just spent 10,000 putting a new roof on the house.
