Heavy bullet for the 25-20

Print Post
I have a custom 25-20 with a 1-10 twist barrel.  It was my fathers.  I am looking for a 115-120 grain bullet.  I have 100 of ones he cast but he can’t find the mold.  Is there anyone who makes them?

Paul Jones (deceased) only made ten of his 122 grain Spitzer mould and no one is willing to part with his.
Ron Smith, Greg Molendyk, William Harrison and Ralph McDonald now own four of them.
Mine was sold with my .25 RKS 1885 10:1 twist Winchester rifle to William.

David Mos also made 120 grain moulds later but I do not know if he still is making them.

No one else was making these longer .25 caliber bullet molds to my knowledge.

Ron Smith introduced the tight 10:1 twist .25 caliber barrels when he introduced his .25 RKS cartridge and had Paul Jones make the first longer 122 grain bullet to fire in his new rifle.
Ron had the first rifle, followed by Ralph Mcdonald, with Greg Molendyk having the third rifle and I had the fourth .25 RKS rifle built.

I have an NOE mold for my .25-36 Marlin that's 115 grain. Would likely work if your twist rate is fast enough. Surely NOE or Accurate could make one up the weight you want.

I’m sorry but I don’t have a way to cast bullets.   I am looking for a cast bullet maker that does

If you don't cast then buy a mold and give it to whoever you use to cast for you. Then have them give you back the mold when they give you the bullets. Give it back to them whenever you need them to cast some more.

Bull Shop states they cast bullets from these moulds which are good for your 10:1 twist:

25 Caliber  ~  NOE   ~       260   ~           116  grains  ~  FN ~ GC

25 Caliber ~ D. Moss 120 grains ~ Tapered Spt PB

25  Caliber  ~ NEI   ~  .258   ~  120 grains  ~    FN  ~ GC

25 Caliber  ~ RCBS   ~       .260        ~  120 grains  ~  SPT ~ GC

The 220 grain Dave Moss tapered Spitzer bullet which does not have a gas check easily shoots at 1,600 fps without a problem.
Jerry H shoots exceptionally well with this plain base bullet at those speeds.

CPA Rifles currently lists the MOS mold you are seeking. Mine works very well. NO, it is not for sale.

Dave,
Count me as a Paul Jones 25 cal spitzer mould owner. It came with my RKS 25 Hornet that Bob Zimmerman had.
I also have the NOE mould and it is very close to the PJ one in accuracy. I am shooting in the mid 1600s.

One of the last conversation I had with Paul Jones: "He strongly advised me to never ever sell this mould since he would not be making any new ones after the first 10 since he would have to cut a new cherry."
So we know who holds half of these moulds.

Dave,

This is the only marking on the mould.
