I have one in a drilling. It likes 160g Hornady RN bullets.

Factory ammo from S&B is readily available and relatively inexpensive. It uses a 131 gr bullet at a stated velocity of 2543 fps.
The brass is boxer primed and suitable for reloading, which avoids the reforming problem using the bigger 57 R length cartridges.
I did experience a problem with small primer pockets that had to be enlarged in order to seat Remington 9 1/2 LRP's.
I'm reloading the first box of brass with 123 gr lead bullets and Unique powder. QL estimates the velocity at 1500-1600 fps and the pressure at about 21,000 psi.
It's an accurate and fun cartridge to shoot.

Actually I ordered some of the S&B yesterday as it turned out I didn't have the brass I thought I did and that ammo is quite reasonable. After I shoot some of that ammo to get the brass and center the scope I will try the lead bullets from the molds that I have although I may start with a heavier one first and with LP primers as LR are getting scarce. Just went looking and the lighter of my 6.5 Lyman moulds has gone AWOL. It was 266455, a 127 grain Loverin GC, so I'll be starting with 266469 GC HP a 140 grain Loverin. The Loverin GCs have a long shank with many, many lube grooves designed to permit high velocity (for lead) loads. We'll see.

I have a Merkel O/U double rifle in 6.5x57R I’ve been shooting for 20+ years. Had to refit a Leupold 1.5x 5x scope as orig. scope lost ,it came to U.S. as a WW II war souvenir,it was mfg. in 1940 (year I was born)! Easiest source of brass was neck down Norma 7x57R or 8x57R,I used a 6x55 Swede sizing die & Voila you have 6x57R !
I don’t hunt big game any more but still hunt coyotes
Mainly calling from a box blind. Use the Merkel as a S.S.
As it’s impossible to get a light wt. bullet to converge both barrels on the target because of the fast twist rate. I use it as a S.S. As the top barrel will shoot a 85 grn. Sierra Spitzer into 1” to 1 1/2” @ 100 yds. @ 2400 fps,Very adequate for my quarry. The Europeans  consider the 6.5x57R a big game cartridge & I’m sure w/ 160-175 grn. Bullet it bring down any game animal in North America.see accompanying pix here of my Merkel w/ Coyote. Hope of some interest ?

I had the rifle at the range today to shoot up 20 rounds of the S&B to get the brass and also to see if I could get the old Zeiss Zielklein on target at 100 with it. I had to do a little tap adjustment on the rear dovetail to get it centered and I played with the scopes vertical adjustment and that worked easily.

I found it interesting that the forearm on this unrelated barrel more closely matches the buttstock than the forearm on the original barrel. I'm pleased with the match:-) The Zeiss Zielklein is a 2.25x power with sharp topped post and crosshair. It is incredibly clear and sharp and a 90 odd year old scope. As I indicated, windage adjustment is by driving the rear mount in the dovetail and the adjustment on the scope is elevation only with clockwise for down. Focusing is by a push/pull on the ocular end. Havent figured out the locking of that mut must involve one or both of the screws on each side. don't really want to mess with those until I know. Anyone know for sure? The S&B ammo with its 131 grain bullet really whips that bullet out there.

Attached is a photo of my 6.5x57R rifle. It's a Krieghoff combination gun (6.5x57R / 16 gauge) with hand detachable side locks and an older Zeiss scope (4X-32).
The S&B ammo is accurate. I'm hoping that the lead bullet load will even better for short range plinking.

Our rain finally stopped and I got the lead pot out and my old (1965 apparently - which fits with my first 6.5x55 Swedish) and relatively unused Lyman 266469 HP GC mold. Lyman used to make some very nice molds and this is one of them. Of course, these HP molds are slow to use with the tight HP pin needing to be worked out and then returned after opening the mold and dumping the bullet but I got through making enough to sample in the rifle. I'm going to shoot another 20 of the S&Bs first and then chamfer and anneal all the necks. Meanwhile, my order from Midway showed up with the proper top punch for the bullet, a .265 H&I die and a 6.5 Lyman M die. I was looking in some old loading manuals and they were driving this bullet at some fairly high velocities so for my next cast session I will use 1 to 16. Since I cast with 2 molds I'll have to figure out which other one would like the 1 to 16, maybe one for the 25-35. Fun, fun, fun.
