My Wife wanted to join me on a Bison hunt

I like to hunt using the Sharps or the flintlock or the plains rifle for deer. I took three Bisons with the Sharps, one with the .44-90bn and two using the .44-77. Both calibers did a great job with the three I took between 150 and 200 yards.
On this hunt my wife wanted to join me LOL what an experience that was for her and I'm glad she joined me. She still talks about it.
When we started the stalk I told her, stay close behind me, dont talk and if they come at us dont run. Cheesy
Starting the stalk from behind the rolling ground the wind was off to the side and just before cresting the hill the wind shifted and I could hear some grunting from the large heard, so did Carolyn LOL she started stepping on my heals she was that close and tapped me on the shoulder pointing at her ear Cheesy
I like to take a young meat bull,2 year old, and my PH pointed one out but I could not take the shot because of a cow was behind him so I held off till she cleared but the old heard bull started to shake his head and the cows started to move off to my left and I took the shot at 158 yards but the shot went high, about 3" above the heart and caught the lower lung. It was a killing shot but I finished him off with a shot behind the ear.
I'm proud of this little Gal, she did what I told her and the heard got very close going by us.
He dressed out with 460 lbs boned out meat.

This is my favorite hunting rifle.
It's the .44-77 Shiloh. with a 480 gr PP bullet.

While not pleasant to shoot I love that crescent butt plate.

Just don't shoot it prone up hill Cheesy
That rifle is not what many would build. Light 10# rifle with a single trigger and a crescent buttplate and a Lawrence sight but it's perfect for me. I don't shoot prone too often. When out hunting I lean on a tree or fence post or I use what I call my crutch that is on top of the photo I made with a .50 BMG case wood dowel and bullet for a point I carry in my belt if I want to take a long shot. It's a North Woods UP Mich hunting rifle.

I built one a few years ago and also incorporated the crescent buttplate. It is in 40-50 straight and with 300 gr bullets one miss placed mounting to the shoulder with that stock will get your attention. Mine has set triggers but I do like a single. You have a beautiful rifle...

Kurt,
I really like that rifle too. It’s my idea of a serious woods rifle. I don’t mind the crescent butt at all for mostly off hand shots. I really, really like the single trigger!
Nice Buffalo! I shot one in December of 24 in NW South Dakota. Memorable experience. Great meat.

Cheesy Jim, It has drawn blood on my collar bone also Cheesy
Shot prone on a midrange match at Cadillac Mich on that down hill 300 yard line shooting up and I got in a hurry for the last shot and it caught me Cheesy but I would never give that rifle up for another.

I hunted on the Bison Ranch at Coteau Ridge in Pingree, North Dakota back I think 2010 and Orren Krapp ran it then. I don't know if he still does or not. But I see the prices have increased quite a bitt from the $1275 I paid.

Kurt, thats where we shot ours as well in 2014. His son took over shortly after and built a new lodge and prices seemed to climb steadily from that point. Good times.

I enjoyed spending time with Orren.
I used the .44-90BN for that harvest and one shot he staggered about 50 yards and dropped. Orren slapped my back that knocked my hat off and he said that old caliber put them down better that the .300 mags.
He said I want one of those shells if you can spare one. I said were done and handed him one Cheesy
Fine feller he was.

What is the difference between the "Nebraska Bison and the North Dakota" bison?

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.
