I've been forming brass from the 14ga.
Anyone try the Martini in 577-450 ?
Suggested loads?

Seriously---
I "played" with a 577/450 Martini "service rifle" years ago.
Formed brass from Magtec shotshells, etc
Intension was not Schuetzen at the time. Just working with
my stepson's rifle to help him shoot it kind of for Historical
eaperience.
The cartridge just has Too Much case capacity to work with for
Schuetzen even for the BP matches.
For that matter, same would apply for the US 45 Gov't/45-70
Just too much gun
I did find my 40-65 Hi Wall works well for the BP Schuetzen
match. Not too much recoil and very easy to build loads for.
Then, speaking again about Martinis :   The Martini International MKII,etc rifles shoot very competitively for the 22 rimfire Schuetzen matches.
as well as other 100-300yds range .22LR matches around our area.

I would not shoot this .577-.450 cartridge or the .45-70 Goverment for Scheutzen.
1. - The case capacity is too great for consistent ignition in the light loads needed for a day's competition.
2. - There are few plain-base bullets in the 300-grain to 325-grain range for light recoil.

Over forty years ago, we experimented with the 335-grain Gould Hollowpoint Express bullet in this quest in a .45-70. Used Reloder #7 and 2400 powder in the 1000 to 1200 fps range. This was in a 10-pound Rolling Block and the recoil added up over a day's shooting.

Found an online report from a guy who had done extensive testing with a whole lot of powders and his "very accurate" load was 2 inches at 100.
