22-243 ammo info

Picked up a bunch of 22-243 sized and primed casings, some loaded rounds, etc, with the hopes of punching out a 22-250 Ruger no 1 (I think it should work).  Anyone know where I can get the barrel chambered?

Might make an interesting shooter/bench gun….

Yes, a barrel burner.

I have a 22 CHeetah (22/243, 40°shoulder). It was fun and loud, for a while but, lost interest.

This barrel is a notorious barrel burner. I'd open these cases up to .243 even if you have to buy or build another rifle. Unless you go to a fast twist to shoot the 90 grain or so .224 bullets, you'll have no gain in wind-resistance.

The 243 itself is not much better, as barrel burners go.

Yup. 6mm Remington better??? Neck length vs shoulder angle???

Not sure if a 6mm Rem will clean up at the shoulder in a 243 chamber without a setback.

But let's face it, you wanted a larger bore and a rimmed case anyway ...

Adding... the cost of dies and brass, for how many hours of frustration trying to make an 'Abomination' work ...

For a thousand rds or LESS. Anything on a 243 case at .264 or under ... 7mm seems ok ... .308 not an issue.

Scrap it and move on.

The 6mm Rem, is a excellent caliber. Overall, much better than the 243. I got my first one in 1968.

It has a little more case capacity, longer neck and better throat, with a freebore or ball seat.

I also have a 243 and a 6mm Rem Imp.

You can't rechamber a 243 to a 6mm (shoulder is smaller) but, you can rechamber to 6mm Imp. With the 6mm Imp, you can increase velocity about 100 fps, over the std 6mm and shoot the heavier bullets, like the 115's if you have a 8 twist, 9 twist will do the 105's well.

If you have problems finding 6mm brass, you can resize 257 Roberts or 7mm Mauser, that's how it was created.

There's always the 6mm/30-30.

Yes, I like that one, too!

You can drive a 85 gr bullet to 30/3100 fps (26" bbl). I bought a 12 twist barrel to do just that but, didn't get to it before I quit shooting.

Very efficient chambering.
