Hoch Mold

I have been offered 2 hoch molds, one is a 409330, that sounds like a good .40 cal mold. The other I am more curious about, its 382305. I was wondering if anyone knew what the bullet looks like and how big it would be. If it is infact  a .382 diameter mold, that might be one best passed on to someone that has one of the large size Uberti highwalls. Any info is appreciated.

a .382 bullet may be useful in early 38-55 rifles that often were actually 38 cal as in .380 or Larger.
BUT, seating a .380-.382 bullet in the case may make the cartridge too large in neck diameter to fully chamber...
Some modern Marlin 38-55 rifles have this problem.
Some people encountering the latter, have had their rifle rechambered with a larger neck diameter so as to allow
loading and shooting the larger .380+ bullets to fit the groove diameter.

Thank you, thats kind of what I had thought but wanted another opinion.  I will know more once I get the mold and drop a few bullets out of it. My 38-55 is a badger barrel with the modern small diameter so that mold may be of no use to me. If thats the case it will go up for sale. I don't need anything I cant use.

I picked up this mold on friday and cast a few bullets in it over the weekend. Its a tapered mold, front band about .375 or so and the base .380 or so. A bit big for my rifle and I have the same mold but a bit smaller in diameter.
I also picked up  2 other Hoch molds in the deal. Other than aluminum molds all the iron/steel molds I have purchased have been of a dark blue/brown color, like they have been through a furnace before being shipped. The one Hoch mold is in the white, natural steel color. I am wondering if perhaps it had never been cast in? Anyone ever purchase a brand new from them care to chime in?

Steel turns blue at 600° and black at 900° so, I don't think it's been used.

It is a rare albino mould. Not quite as rare as the albino American Bison, but it is worth more than a regular dark mould.  Like the bison native Americans attach great significance to the ‘great white mould’. I should be in a museum so everyone can enjoy it. Just my humble opinion.

I haven’t lost all my marbles yet but there is definitely a hole in the bag somewhere.

beltfed  That problem is the reason Starline produces 2.125 length 38-55 brass with thinner mouth walls. They have a description of their reasoning behind the modifications on their website. Solved a problem many had as I did 55 years ago when I bought my first 38-55 Highwall. Worth reading, and recommends not rechambering for some very good reasons.

I tend to agree that it has never been used. Might just be best to oil it up well and stash it away. Its a .40 cal mold in the 350 gr range and I have a mold of that weight so we shall see. It sure is pretty tho.
