Rare new #9 Ballard with Rigby barrel.

I found another #9 with a Rigby barrel. I won it in an online auction. Poor pics, 10 degree weather, small auction, poor description and listing it as a Ballord.  All #'s match 3438x

Ballards may be weaker,

What a great find! With a number that high it should be a Marlin Forearms Co. marked receiver. And should be a 2 line address on the left side.
That serial number puts it towards the end of production, and maybe a leftover Rigby barrel the factory used to assemble an otherwise standard Union Hill.
Pretty neat!

I have never seen a Rigby barrel before and have watched for a #9 for a long time. 2 Birds 1 stone. $ was silly low. On the Rigby flats configuration Full rib top, 1/2 ribs on sides and stub on bottom ?
I also got a Lefever F Grade english stock, damascus Barrels  the same auction.

"lever"?  I assume you mean "Lefever", as in Daniel M. ("Uncle Dan") Lefever of shotgun fame.

Great score. Are those the auction pictures? Do you have any more photos? Very interesting rifle.

I just picked it up yesterday. The clean up is going well. The barrel blue is wonderful. The bore by eye is great. It's a 32/40 by the way. I have an Axtell globe front sight, looking for a tang sight now.

That's the same thing you'll find on all Rigby Ballard rifles as to the flats and how they're done. Except the Rigbys will all be engraved flats. I have two Rigby 6 1/2 pistol grips, and one rare Rigby 6 1/2 early straight grip. Actions all have faceted octagon tops as all Rigby rifles had.

Are you able to post some clearer photos? And what is wrong with the lever such that you are searching for a new one?
