question about TC contender 444 Marlin barrel

I have a question for the TC contender folks.  Did Thompson Center ever make a super 14 barrel with factory break in 444 Marlin chambering ?   I have one but it is stamped 44 magnum.  It is so clean and shows no sign of being rechambered so I am wondering if it was a factory barrel that was mis stamped.

Great , thank you for the reply.  That brings up another question. If what I have is from the custom shop would it be marked in some way to indicate so ?

Oh I see then clearly this is definitely a maybe situation.  I might sell the barrel but I dont know how to offer it as a factory mis stamped or as a re chambered barrel.  It just looks too clean to have been re chambered.

Or a take home back door barrel which was often done at T/C. Lived down the road from them and knew a lot of guys who worked for them and it happened

As I understand it, the throats in many .444 Contender barrels were not cut well, and quite a few folks had .44 Magnum barrels rechambered to .444 so as to obtain a correct throat/chamber.

I had only a few barrels from the TC custom shop, and all mine were stamped Fox Creek. Don’t know if that is a hard and fast rule however, there were probably a few variations of stampings for their barrels over the years.

That makes sense to me.  That may well be what I have and if it is my compliments go to the gunsmith that did the rechamber because there is not a mark on this blued barrel to indicate any work having been done.  The chamber too is as clean as can be.
