Old dog, don't know how immediate the need to dispose of your treasures is but hoping you have lots of time. None of us know. You may be starting to understand that collecting your stuff was a job and now disposing of it is also. Remember every time you got a good deal out there, well the world is looking for those good deals from you now. Remember there was value in the pleasure your stuff brought you and now it is time to move it along. I am lucky as I have 2 boys who will take some of my stuff and sell the rest. I have told them to remember that when they sell anything, "the first dollar they get for anything is all profit to them', in other words don't get hung up on price and remember the mission. You came into this world naked and you shall leave as you entered and this is as it should be. I wish you good luck in your tasks ahead and may God be with you!

Depends a lot on just how much stuff you have and if you know what current market values are and if you have time and are willing to ship and take photos of stuff. I would damn sure not go to an auction house and if you sell it as one lot most will be wanting to buy at wholesale prices vs you doing the selling and looking for close to retail. Lots of variables depending on your situation and limitations. Best of luck

SSDave, gave you excellent advise. Five years ago a collecting/shooting friend passed. Him and his wife keep meticulous records on purchase/date acquired/repairs if any money was spent. Their were 12 safes all full: Double Barrel Rifles, Target Rifles, Hunting Rifles, Revolvers/semi-automatic pistols, Double Barrel Shotguns, over-under shotguns, 22 rifles etc..
Then we had hunting gear, fishing equipment, reloading supplies & presses etc..
They traveled the world and acquired firearms as they traveled.
Wife's demand was I want 80% of the purchase price of all firearms, 50% of purchase price of everything else.
Two major auction houses came and reviewed the firearms and because of her price demands both were willing to take less than 50 firearms. She settled and sent 42 firearms to auction.
Five years has passed and she has sold less than 50% and is constantly working gun shows, ebay, selling to friends etc..

Good Luck

Years ago I was a starving gunsmith in NH teetering on the edge of total financial collapse but was friends with Kim Adams of the family who owned Kittery Trading Post ( KTP ) and he asked if I could work the counter from time to time when somebody couldn’t make it.  I knew the crew there pretty well and was comfortable working their system of each guy had a specialty, you know hunting rifles, shotguns, Safari heavy guns, revolvers and pistols. Anyway once somebody inspected a gun and put a number on it then it stuck. I can’t tell you how many times I saw guns extremely under priced but given the volume of guns on the floor their philosophy was make a profit but leave enough room for the customer to come back. I don’t think there is another gun shop the equal to KTP but understand I left NH in 2010 so I’ve heard things have changed a bit

As an addendum to this it’s worth the effort to understand that not all auction houses are equal. There are a lot of household and farm type auctioneers that try to sell anything. These are not reliable and qualified firearms auctioneers that actually know your guns and their market value. These operators move lot#’s and depend on the sellers description exclusively to sell. We and you need better than that.
