Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Andover, yes your right you could but we are just talking about factory mounts by Unert (mounts in question), Lyman, Fecker. I dont know that they varied there mounts.

Yea, the 1/8 MOA came up when I started the post because there was a tag on the scope/mounts that said 1/8 MOA and the discussion kind of drifted from there. I guess I'll get it on a rifle and shoot it since we are finally getting some decent weather here in MN and let everyone know the results. Thanks for the input. Chris

Do the dehorned mounts actually have clicks in them? I thought the dehorned versions didn't have clicks?

Good morning,
With all the knowledge here on the forum I would like to ask for help as well with a Unertl scope.

I have two questions on the provenance of this scope shown in the two attached photos.

1. Did Unertl offer these scope rings with the calibration indication in this configuration?
2. How is distance established based on the numbers only on the front objective, other Unertl scopes I own have yardage referenced.

Thank any of you who can shed light on this particular Unertl scope and of course the education gained.

Gerald, even the ones with yardage are just estimations to get you in a zone. With yours it’s a reference you can write down once you get the adjustment for a known range. Something you can use to go back to. Even modern short scopes are guesstimating the yardage and not guaranteed right on the numbers.

Gerald, 2 questions (and sorry if I am missing the obvious). Are the bases marked Unertl? and could the markings on your objective just be for yardage in 100s? IE 1 =100 etc. (it looks like it goes from 5 to 9 but that may just be the picture or my eyes and really it's a 6) The lines appear equally spaced which intuitively you wouldn't think correct (as bullet trajectory seems to overwhelm thinking in this area but is different) but I checked some of my scope and the objective marking lines all seem equally spaced on like distances (yards vs feet etc). Thank you guys for your thoughts, yes I do know that the markings are more of a general reference to the distances marked on the scope.

Yes the scope rings are stamped Unertl.

It is possible the numbers relate to yards, I have not unscrewed the objective as far as it will go yet and how high the numbers climb.

I will (as time allows) take the scope out to the range and begin to find out how the numbers relate to yardages.
I was hoping a member knew offhand the relation ship of these markings.
The scope is marked 10X and for now will rest on a Ballard 22 for 200 yard matches.
Thanks again.
