Thumb trigger history help?

A friend is asking me about a single shot military style bolt rifle with crown V stamps and no other markings. It has a spur on the underside of the stock to act as a hand stop in the way a pistol grip would and has a thumb trigger behind the bolt. The thumb trigger sounds familiar, but I can't find it in any of my books. Anybody able to help me out with a clue as to what the rifle might be?

Winchester Model 99 Thumb Trigger. Pretty rare here. A lot of them were sold in Australia.

It didn't sell very well here in the states because boys wanted a "real" rifle with a regular trigger.

Having never heard of the Win. thumb-trigger, I looked it up & found the following excellent YouTube video:

Not so simple as the Winchester 99.

A 19th century military bolt action in something like 40-45 caliber and bolt lockup and retention very much like the 71 Mauser, but with a horizontal trigger sticking out of the bolt shroud.

Thanks Wayne! The one I'm looking at is different, but this is more of a clue than I have found otherwise

I've dug in a bit and it is indeed a Pieri like Wayne linked. I've found reference to the French trialing a Pieri carbine and these seem to be known mostly in the form of various unadopted military samples. The one I'm investigating has British proofs and is styled (barrel bands, sights, and cleaning rod) more like a British military rifle of the period. Perhaps submitted to British trials. More to find and research, but I'm very grateful to Wayne for finding the clue that has broken the dam.
