Accurate #9 in 25-20SS

Update:  I changed the title of the thread because it dawned on me that a lot of people would ignore a thread about the old, long unavailable H108.  Everything else remains the same.

There was a short thread on this subject a few months ago that I found earlier today then lost, so I’ll just start a new one.  The Rook Rifle class in the Oak Ridge Classic Rifles event inspired me to get my 25-20SS high wall project off the back burner (OK, it had actually fallen off the back of the stove!  Shocked) and try to get it ready for this match.  Smiley

Did anyone ever get a good load developed using H108 (or Accurate #9) for 25-20SS with the old factory twist?   Cool

I have a couple of moulds including the Ideal Perfection, so I can juggle bullet weights a bit, but I’m wondering about powder type and charge.  Smiley

I’ve got a good stash of H108 I use for my 32/357 Peregrine, so I’d like to use that, but I also have a (dwindling) stash of IMR 4759 and a couple of faster burning pistol-type powders in smaller amounts.  Undecided

I’d love to hear what any of you are loading for 25-20SS in your rifles.  How about some of you Quarter Bore Corps guys?  Smiley

My 44 likes 6.2 grains of H108 with 257463 and 6.8 grains with 257420.

Thanks.  That’s just the kind of info I am looking for.

Update: while browsing the gun show last weekend I saw a tablewith a few bullet moulds peeking out.  There amongst the stuff I didn’t need was a Lyman DC mould marked 257420.  Surprisingly it seems to have had the GC rings shaved off.  Win-win!  Wink
Time to get out the old melting pot, mix up some 25:1 alloy, and cast a bunch of these as well as a fresh batch of my old Ideal 31952s from the early integral handle mould.  This bullet was always a favorite when I was shooting Ram Bash at Fairfax R&PC.  Now to get off my lazy adze and get ‘er done!  The dates of the Classic Rifles in the TN event are coming up fast.   Cool
I’ve still got enough of my stash of IMR 4759 to use with the 32-40, and I’ll experiment with H108 for the 25-20.  I hope those loads will work well.  Since both guns are high walls I have all the margin of safety I could ask for.  Cheesy

25-20SS with a 10 twist, done by a Schuetzen gun builder tells me to use 7.3 H108. 118/120 gr.25-1  alloy,  Mos bullet. In a Win Low wall he built,  for what’s it worth

When Accurate # 9 was used in my 25-20 SS the case necks were shortened and thickened so I stopped using it.

Current load is 8.2 gr 4227 and it works good. Douglas 10 twist 120 gr Mos bullets.
