I came across a rifle in a gun store and the only writing on the gun other than the gunsmith who rebarreled it is Luca. It is stamped on the receiver and the breach block. Has anyone heard of a Luca action?

I wonder if it might be an "N" instead of a "C"?
I've seen pictures of a Luna single shot rifle before but I've never heard of a Luca.
Regards,
Joe

Let's see, a nice 22 target rifle with a set trigger, great sights, and beautiful wood. What more do you need to know? Buy it!

Luca was a brand or model name used by Ernst and Friedrich Buchel of Zella Mehlis, Germany.
They sold target & sporting rifles and many off hand single shot target pistols with the name designation on it..
Many of their guns will carry the marking EBF-LUCA.

If I had a chance at it, I would grab it.

It is chambered in 38-55. And they are asking 1700 for it. I know it depends on location and how much someone wants it. But do y’all fell like that would be a fair price?

The earlier part of this discussion gave me the impression that the rifle was a .22 rimfire target rifle. That's what got my interest. Since that is not the case, is it really a .38/55? There were several European cases that might come close but are not really .38/55.
And some of those big German actions are not as strong as they might first appear. Will the seller let you slug the barrel or do a chamber cast?

It was rebarreled by a gunsmith around Helena Montana named Arnold erhardt from what I was told. And his name is stamped in the barrel. That is also one of my main concerns is the strength of the action. Is it safe for modern full power smokeless loads or black powder only?

When you mentioned that the right side of the action was cut lower than the left I assumed it was for loading 22s. With the length of the receiver and the lever pin at the far front lower left it may be that it is a copy of the Aydt where the block is part of the lever. These were certainly strong enough for the 8.15x46R (standard around 20,000 psi or maybe up to 28,000 for BP say) but without the right side of the action cut down. 38-55 could be rated up to 35,000 psi. Obviously someone has been shooting it with target level loads. If you could get a look at the face of the block to see if has been converted from RF to CF that might be a factor to consider. Without some engraving and having been altered, $1700 is probably optimistic.
