Lets play.......What the heck did I just buy?

I have an eBay addiction and am looking for an eBay Anonymous group in my area.
My latest acquisition includes an unknown powder or shot measure, a scale base and arm that don't go together, a Dillon powder measure cap and luckily two Unertl style bases that were not even pictured that are worth the $21.65 I paid for the entire lot.
Anyone have any idea what the powder measure is?  The center piece pivots to deliver content to the bottom part not unlike a B&M measure.  The bottom hole is slightly smaller than 1/2" but it would be easy to make an adapter to accept B&M drop tubes.

Early Ohaus scale base, but later 5-10 arm.
Powder measure appears to maybe be a homemade item? Looks like no adjustment, so probably used an adjustable tube like a B&M uses maybe?

The arm is actually a Hornady based on web photos.  Not a home made measure though.  It is cast so it was probably a prostitution run.  I will make an adapter for B&M tubes and see how accurate it is.  The steel shaft runs the full length.  If I like it I will have to modify it.  Not sure what it mounted to.

I should have known that as one of my measures was a Hornady. But my excuse is I gave it to my son in law a year ago when he started reloading. Smiley

I can't help with the measure identification jack, but I could enable the addiction easily.  I'm on a long term slimming down/cleanup plan.  I have a box that I throw unknown stuff into; it fills shockingly fast as what I don't know is extremely vast.  Since you like this game so well, I could ship you a flat rate box every time it fills for a nominal price!

I've resorted to throwing stuff into the scrap metal and garbage that I can't figure out.  Last sorting session, I threw a bunch of unknown sears and tumblers and a known but rust pitted ballard double set sear into the garbage just so I didn't have to deal with them.  I sorted through a few pounds of gun screws; put the ones I could identify into my multiple divided tackle box system and walked over to the scrap metal and dumped in the remaining odd ones that I'm not going to give a home to anymore.  Tossed a real nice holster that someone had cut to start modifying.  I don't have the space or patience to store any of that stuff anymore, and don't have the desire to find it an appropriate new home.  I do sell occasional lots on ebay; the last one of beat up and mis-matched colt grips brought more than $100.

I tested the measure to see what the max charge of BP would be and got 98 gr of IIf.  I tried 4759 but it is not good for stick powders.  It did not cut quickly AND there is a point where the center powder chamber was still open to the powder bottle and able to flow out the bottom.  The good news is that, while not a perfect fit, a can of GOEX will screw directly on as a powder source.
The more I think about it, using a drop tube will not work as configured.  The bottom piece opening is funnel shaped and would hold more powder than a drop tube inserted into it.  I can make an insert that would result in a 1/2' diameter chamber in the lower portion but a B&M drop tube would poke out the top when the center chamber is in position to accept powder.  A simple stop ring on the drop tube would remedy that.  Hmm.  On to the think more about it shelf.

The more I think about this measure the more I believe it is intended to throw shot not powder.  The center pivoting chamber can take inserts to control volume.

The bottle looks like it's from a MEC shot shell reloader

Here is a top view showing where inserts could go.

Jack,

The measure looks an awful lot like the one Pacific used to sell under the name “Mesur-kit”. It was advertised as able to be fitted onto a standard powder can and came with a slide adjustable drop tube.  All I’ve seen were “Pacific Blue” but yours seems to have been stripped to bare metal.  BTW, it sometimes came with a metal can like IMR used to use, nicely marked to indicate it was part of the Pacific Mesur-Kit.

I had one I used briefly with BP to make musket loads.  It screwed onto a GOEX red and white powder can and worked really well for a while, but then seized up and broke.  Huh  I’ve been meaning to pick up another off eBay when one shows up.
