4759 powder

Any old timers out there getting close to calling it quits that might be willing so sell a crabby old Yooper their coveted stash of 4759? Picking it up within a several state radius would give me a reason to throw the tent and sleeping bag in the Taylorcraft and make a fun flight adventure this summer. I would love to find an 8# jug but wont be picky for any amount!

You will never find an 8 pound jug of 4759.   The big cns that held 8 pounds of other powders only held 5 pounds of 4759.  Good luck finding any.

Oh;  the one I have is in the metal can.   I'll have to look and see if it is 5 or 8 pounds.   I know that the "1 lb" metal cans were only 1/2 pound/

Good luck with your quest. I endured the same angst when they discontinued it, the skunks. Diligent searching and multiple pleas turned up a serious amount in dribs and drabs, enough to keep me going 'til the end - but with my luck I'll live past 90 and have to resort to burning lesser powders.

You know how there's a couple glorious days from the past that are etched in our memories? One of mine is when an acquaintance called me 6 years ago and said "y'all want this unopened 8lb jug of 4759?" The clouds parted and the angels sang, and I did the happy dance.

My similar glorious day was walking thru the Yuma gun show and stumbling on an unopened 12# can of 4759.   Best $300 I think I've ever spent.

Now if I can just live long enough to use it all up Smiley

Once upon a time a fellow shooter found a listing for 8# jugs of surplus 4759.  I got one of those about 20 years ago and still have most of it. Along with dribs and drabs of other (8 oz cans) I think I still have enough left for the rest of my life at the rate I’m using it now.  Do you want to be in my will for any remainder?  Roll Eyes

Think I have 4 of the 1 lb jugs with a short measure of 4759 12 oz ?

When it went out of production reserved my 4759 stock for 38/55 & moved 32/40 to 4227. Also moved most pistol calibers, 38/40 45 LC 45 ACP & squib rifle loads to Unique.

I hope you got plenty of 4227 and Unique, friend boats.  They’re bothering reaching dodo status too!  This is not good times for the good old powders.  Alliant has announced the discontinuation of the production of Unique, and I haven’t seen a can of 4227 for sale for as long as I can remember.  I’d slowed down using both of them, so I have a small remnant of each, but haven’t looked at my supply of either for a very long time.   Sad
