TK Lee Co. "Lee Dot" Status

The TK Lee Co. once located in Birmingham, AL. appears to be
closed. It was located at 1282 Branchwater Ln., Birmingham, AL. His son operated the business. (Tel 205-913-5222)Both the tel No. and a former web site are now defunct.)TK Lee died in 1957, and no one was able to claim the standing purse of $15K-to outshoot him for record in rifle-pistol-shotgun.

I have an earlier B&L scope with a Lee dot that is a bit too small, and I wanted a larger Dot reticle. They used to do this. At any rate, be forewarned. The last discussion here on TK Lee Co.was in 2012. TK Lee was famous for his rifle shooting skill & awards, along with his use of fine cross hairs made from the thread of black widow spiders.

My rifle has a "black widow thread Lee Dot " reticle.

Back in the 1960s I bought a Lyman Alaskan in its box with papers added that it was shipped from Lee having added a dot. I actually wish I still had that scope. I put it on a highly engraved Sempert and Krieghoff kiplauf in 9.3x72R which I parted with a long time ago to fund my custom CPA. I just happened on this recent sale which could well be the rifle I had and hunted with. Note the engraving and the scope.

OK, I wish I still had that rifle also.

First rate rifle and scope.

I have a few Lyman Alaskans left and they are tough scopes. The last one also had  fine cross hairs and a Lee dot. My eyes were telling the tale, so it  went with an early M-70 Super Grade with G&H sidemount. I still have another early M-70 with the same G&H sidemount, with both a Lyman Alaskan and Leupold Alaskan
to alternate for hunting in the rougher mountains of Alaska-
where extra scopes and gunsmiths are back in Fairbanks.

I was just looking at the engraving again and while the inlaid gold bands across the breech are very obvious the silver bands inlaid in the center of the border surrounding the engraved panels are not. As usual the silver has oxidized to form a thin dark line in the center of the border and the seller did not polish them to reveal their beauty and they didn't even mention them in the write up. Look closely.
