It appears to be a home built striker conversion for a Ballard.

It kind of looks like a ballard but they are shaped differently on the top of the block. I'm going through the DeHass book to see what I can find out.

Some more pics, maybe one of it disasembled. It may be a good basis for a project. If I had it I would use it with a Big Smile.

Very similar in design to the George Worn.  Rodney and I had talked about the fp retaining disc that I copied and use for most of my builds now.  I'd take a wild guess and say from the patina on it, better chance that it is a Worn, than not...  Do you have the rest of the action? What is the length of the breech block? Sell it?

I haven’t been around a Worn action yet, but will once Rodney gets the castings in.  I’ve been wondering how this one cocks? Doesn’t look like there is anything for the lever link to catch.  Also looks like the hammer is newer than the rest of the parts.  Is it something different than an original?

Greg, this does look like something right up your ally….if it’s in loose hands and available!
Bob

Should have studied it a bit more before posting.  Apparently the deep V in the front of the hammer is for cocking.  I originally thought it looked way to deep for the link to act against but I know this is a small action and it probably isn’t as deep as it appears.

Bob,
I have a few of these Worn's close to finished (shooting), Bruce N. has his finished.  Here is a pic of one breech block needing a tiny bit more, it's fitted to the reciever and barrel is set, somebody just needs to quit being a slacker and finish one...  The link serves as a means of cocking the striker.
Smith,
The empty breech block pictured is lying on an original block, there is definitely a size (length) discrepancy.  Followed by that pic is of the two different action  sizes.
The Worn's that I've been around are a smaller design and paired with Hubalek, most were 22rf.  One of mine will be a small caliber CF.

Smith,
Going back and looking at your pics, there is a real good chance this could be a Hubalek/Worn, it's a 22rf from the impression on the breech face.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

It also looks shorter than a full sized Ballard breech block, which would again make it likely a Hubalek/Worn block.
