Scope inquiry

Time for yet another loaded question…
I have yet to receive my first ASSRA Journal, as I signed up in early January. Combine that with knowing that I am waiting for my first (new) Scheutzen type rifle to arrive, a CPA. I’m guessing that to be hopefully sometime in March.
My current quest is to select a scope. The matches I shoot in are from the bench, 100 and 200-yards. I do plan to give breach seating a solid try. The chambering is .38-55 Winch. (Ballard). I do have a 24X Unertl scope that is presently being gone over.
Knowing the rifle, chambering and shooting distances, is there another scope that might be more suited? The parallax adjustment, to go from 100 to 200 on the Unertl, is not totally user friendly. But the Unertl does give the overall appearance of being closer to “period correct”.
I know scope choice is quite personal. And some people like the “mil-dot” feature, which I’m not a fan of. Maybe 24X is too much, is not needed and might be a drawback….I don’t know.
Anyway, I’m curious what might be a reasonable recommendation from the group here.
Thanks!
Tom

Your 24x Unertl should serve you well. But, as we age, higher power can be helpful when shooting from a bench at 100 to 200 yards. I mark the parallax/focus points for each yardage with a sharp pointed triangle rubber cemented at the appropriate position to facilitate return to either. It works well for me, and others may hopefully contribute their solutions.

A 24x Unertl will be just fine. I use a 20x and consider that to be nearly optimal for magnification and light gathering ability id the period 3/4" scopes. My 25x Lyman is a bit dimmer and I reserve that for 100yd .22 rimfire. Just my humble opinion.

I should have mentioned that as we get older our ability to deal with very tiny items gets "complicated" for some, so switched to a label maker and tape to lower the frustration level.

As bpjack mentioned 3/4 inch tubes restrict light transmission at higher powers, but if yours happens to be a 2 inch target, its 1 inch tube will help mitigate that. Regardless of choice, you will be just fine.

I think the 24x Unertl will be perfect. Out of curiousity - who is going over it? I have a 1940’s 10x Unertl with Ironsight as we speak. I have a 3200 they did a very nice job on too!
I have also been very happy with the new Malcolm 20x target scopes. I have two of them on high walls and they have excellent optical clarity and are very dependable. These are not a bad deal for a new scope!
Good luck with the CPA!

A lot of folks here would be real happy to have your 24X Unertl.

I think the "repair shop" is Ironsight in Tulsa.
A good friend found the scope for me at a spring Tulsa gun show 3-years ago. I've been using it on a .38-55 Remington Rolling Block for our CBA matches but it was locked-up after wanting to return the parallax from 200 to 100. I've changed it several times but this was the first time it acted up.
