recoil springs on centerfire rifles

The latest Journal arrived today and in the article about the 6X scopes it was stated that a recoil spring should not be used on a centerfire rifle.  This got my attention because I have one on my 38-55. Should I discontinue the use of that recoil spring? So far so good, but I don't want to press my luck.
Thanks!

The spring will compress and then move back to its original position.  I think the sudden stop after awhile may move the internals (lens or crosshair module) around.
Just take the tension off the spring and pull the scope back into position after each shot.

Thanks for the help!

I always assumed ( you know what happens when you assume something!) that the recoil spring was there at least in part to minimize the shock to the scope, in addition to protecting your eyebrow. I realized a long time ago that you cant believe everything you read, but when I read something in the ASSRA Journal, I pay attention!
Thanks!
