logging in trouble....

I just got a new laptop, and while setting it all up and adding my bookmarks, I got to the forum here where I was unable to log in. Numerous attempts made but no go. Now, I'm not the first fellow that has had this- some well known posters have had to create new identities. But, is this necessary? After all, I can still use this old computer and it all works fine. What may I do to get on this forum using my shiny new equipment? Maybe a post to the group at large would help others beside me. Just an idea.

All you need to login from anywhere is your Login ID (Email Address will work also) and your password.

What happens is most users do not write down or save their password, and choose the option "Keep Me Logged in" so they typically don't have to enter their password frequently, and forget it.

Also of note, is your Login ID does not necessarily match your screen name, during sign-up you have the option of choose a different login name and Screen name, and again, if you do choose something different, and choose to stay logged in always, you dont enter your login ID frequently, and many users forget what they picked.

If you have forgotten your password, click on the Forgot Password link under the login form and enter your email address. If the system finds a matching user to that email address, it will email a password reset link, which you can click to set a new password.

SOMETIMES the password reset link does not work properly, and gives you an error. Try to copy the full link from the email, and paste it in the address bar of your browser, if that still doesn't work, email me and I can manually reset your password for you.

If you have forgotten your login ID, it is listed in the welcome email you received from the forum. If you have deleted that email, then try to login with your email address instead. If you can successfully log in with your email, go to the User CP in the forum and click the Profile link and then Edit Profile, and at the top of the menu it will list your Login ID  (in brackets after "Edit my Profile")

If all else fails, email me and I will get you fixed.

thank you for the reply to my query. I will sooner or later get this thing worked out- my computer guru (daughter) will come to sort this techno-dinosaur's stuff. Meantime, I'll just use my old computer to keep in touch here.   Smiley
