How to ship loaded ammunition

I have found a small stash of antique ammunition in my friends estate. Have to go through it and clean it up and segregate it. Question is can and how would you ship it if I were to sell it in our buy sell trade forum?

I sold some ammunition for a friend who was moving and didn’t want to take it with him. I had to take it to a UPS depot for the proper labeling.
USPS won’t ship ammunition.

I ship it UPS and it just takes the proper label. Since UPS has stopped allowing us to take packages to their main depots last year, it now goes to any UPS store. I'm uncertain if those stores have the correct labels as the depots had? So you might need to print off a copy of the label and glue it to your packages.

Here's their instructions, with a picture of the black & white label at the link:

I can tell you for a fact that not all UPS stores will ship loaded ammo. There are three UPS stores where I live and two flat out refuse ammo and are anti gun and rather rude about the whole thing.  They are franchised businesses so they can do as they please. So call ahead

Same here, and it's not just ammo I've had issues with at some hub stores.
I talked with a young guy at one of the "area stores" after UPS closed their main depot to the public, and he gave me a list of the 4 regional district stores in town that covered N-S-E & W areas. He said whatever the depot used to accept will be fine at those stores, but others might have individuals who'll give me grief.
I had one UPS store that wouldn't accept some return auto parts unless they shipped them! I told the woman that UPS had delivered the parts to me in those exact same boxes, and why would that change on a return? She finally gave in and took them. I think she was simply trying to charge more for her to repack the parts.

If things haven't changed (famous last words.....).  You can schedule a UPS pickup.

California is really tricky - I haven't bought any ammo since 2018 here since they passed new laws (thankfully it doesn't apply to components). To legally have ammunition shipped to you in CA you need to have a federal FFL (C&R counts) and a California state issued Certificate of Eligibility (COE). I've only had the former so can't have ammo shipped to me anymore. So if you're in my boat then you need to have the ammo shipped to a dealer (who has those licenses) and they usually charge a $50 transfer fee, which makes it totally not worth it unless you're ordering a lot of ammo. To be eligible to take the ammo home from the dealer you also have to register and clear a background check (which also has a fee to it). So ya if you want to ship to CA better pull the components - dump the powder and ship it as reloading components.

With the strict regulations on ammo purchases sold to Ca. residents I personally wouldn't try to ship any ammo into Ca. until I was 100% sure it met their rules. But not sure why shipping out of Ca. wouldn't be OK? Again it might be best to check Ca. rules first.
