I bought 2 guns from Jim many years from a print catalog. I felt both were fairly priced. One was a very plain German schuetzen rifle, when I got it I found after close examination, it had never been fired, new thru out, must have been on a dealers shelf when WW2 started. I kept looking at a rifle listed by Joe Salter on Guns International for over 2 years, the price was lowered twice, I finally called and made an offer, I bought it for 55% of original listed price, so some times being for sale for a long period is a good thing. It is the rifle pictured on page 327 of Alte Scheibenwaffen Volume 2.

Then again, maybe I am putting words in Jims mouth since the description reads “as pictured on Page…”. Yeah he got the page wrong but maybe he wasnt claiming this PARTICULAR GUN was in the book but one just like it so a buyer could see there were other oddballs just like it. The guy that bought it isnt a beginner and examined it before purchase.

Guessing he did quote the wrong page, or maybe some employee does this? At least it's not as bad as some of their description mistakes. Minor by comparison.

This whole thread has had me totally confused because of the Rigby reference. Because when I clicked Valls link to the gun for sale, the gun shown, was not a Rigby Ballard nor was there anything saying that it was. So I finally dug out Dutcher’s book and now have a better understanding. Obviously he referenced the wrong gun in the advertising but my question is, is the gun that has now apparently sold, in Dutcher’s book at all?
Bob
Nice gun, as usual, Vall!
Thanks Bob.
John's book doesn't show but three #6 1/2 plain offhand rifles, and only one straight grip Rigby. Both the plain, and Rigby in early straight stock are some of the rarest variations Marlin ever made. They are actually a pistol grip receiver, but have the straight grip stocks. Later #6 1/2 Rigbys were the same action, but had the pistol grip stocks, and a loop lever. I've never seen a first style ever with set triggers, as all were single triggers. Later pistol grip were almost all single triggers, but I have seen a couple with set triggers. My Rigby has set triggers, and all matching numbers. John told me to always check breech blocks for matching serial numbers on any Rigby with set triggers as he sees most have had breech blocks swapped into them if they are DST. By chance my Rigby is also one of those rare ones with a 3 line address also that you usually only see on cast receivers, but it's in a range that John mentions he saw Rigbys with 3 line addresses.
