So basically it's a 405 short so you can use available brass? I like the idea.

Neat. I have a hi wall in 40-70 that was chambered by shortening 405 brass a little. Is that a Thompson barrel?

Modern version of the 40-60 Maynard. I have two, a Ballard and an 1885 Winchester. Both very accurate and easy to load for. Have used them at Raton and the Quigley.

I suppose I could use 405 Win brass but I' have to trim them to 2.225"
Think of it as as a 41 Marlin!?!
Here's my 444 marlin

The barrel is an unmarked prototype done by either SSK or Bullberry back when the Encore was first introduced.
I got it from a fellow shooter who called it a 40-40, meaning a 405 Win shortened that use 40 grains of smokeless.

I didn't get bitten by the Contender bug, I got eaten!
After 30 years with that platform I finally 'graduated' to the Encore. With wildcat training on the contender I found a much slimmer availability of the same in the Encore selections.
I'm drawn to them.
I have secured this barrel and a Lyman 412263 mold which drops a 288 gr. bullet and a nice 357/44 Bain & Davis pistol barrel which shoots with exacting authority.

Always liked that round but thought it too labor intensive to make the cases. Maybe it wasn't after all....

I was first introduced to it by a shooter when I got into contenders. Easy enough process formimg brass but I'm not certain if it's ballistics measure up to 357 maximum standards.

Please forgive me for posting pistol photos in a rifle section!
