Low Wall question

I have a Winchester Low Wall that was produced in 1892 and originally chambered in 22 long. It only extracts and does not eject spent cartridges. Were they made to eject?

Take the forearm off and if you have a lever spring rifle you will see a cutout in the face of the receiver. Just to the right of that cut out will be a smaller cut out where a spring will go and also a screw hole next to it to hold the kicker spring. There are two types of kickers. One type is a solid piece held on by a screw and the other is a bent wire that is held on by a screw. Either one of those can be missing. If it is a coil spring model you will just have the cut out for the kicker spring.

The last time this discussion came up, I got out my less than a year old Winder and although all the parts were there, it did not eject.  Upon close examination, it turns out the spring was not in the proper position. By loosening the spring and pushing the spring in the right direction it began ejecting.

My Winder extracts and ejects spent cartridges. It's a coil spring type.

Not all low walls are winders and not all low walls eject.
