What the heck? Why isn't anyone else bidding? And the AW Peterson Ballard .22 for $900 also?
Looks like Morphy auctions aren't getting much interest?

Was this a secret auction? No catalog or on line presence? One company to never call.

No secret. Hammer dropped too soon. The listing was on proxibid for weeks. I'm mad at myself. I look at the lot #, compare it to the lot # on the block and usually go back ready to wait a bit then bid. I went back to bid and poof, they were 20 lots past the lots I was interested in.

And then there are folks like me that got a heck of a deal.  Smiley I have wanted a Hepburn for years , especially a .38-55, and was the high bidder for a comparatively low price on a No. 3 Sporting Rifle that looks to be in about 70 to 80% condition.

The auctioneers/auction company need to average around 100 lots per hour to make their time profitable. Hence the quick hammer times. You snooze, you loose.

I've bought a few items because someone snoozed. Nothing from this auction though.

I'm not a complete idiot, some of my parts are missing.

With a 26% buyer's premium I can see a reason for a hesitancy to bid. Still there were some real bargains there.

Not sure where you got 26%? Here's what the site states:

A 20% buyer’s premium will be added to all successful bids and is payable by the purchaser as part of the total purchase cost. A 3% fee is applied to payments made by credit card. Our third party platforms have additional fees. Please refer to your preferred platform which will indicate the buyer’s premium for that particular platform and auction.

Always steer clear of various 3rd party auction listings. Go direct to the auction house site to register and bid or you'll over pay.

Buyer's Premiums seem to range from 20 - 25%
Credit Card Fees range from 3 - 4-1/2% (keep in mind the bank charges them 3 to 3-1/2%)
Use a 3rd party bidding platform (ProxiBid, etc) add another 3%
At least one auction house charges to use their own online bidding system ... add 1%
+ tax + shipping ... and so on ...

While buyers continue to bid on these platforms, these fees will not go away. If you need something, be there in person and pay using cash, personal check, or debit card, and drive home with it.

To the wealthy collectors, these charges are minimal and they may not pay attention. to those whose budgets are far less, they are speaking out by not bidding.
