Dennis,
I suggest you shoot your 33-40 with a bit heaver bullet and not like a 32-40. With a 16 twist a 240-gr bullet should shoot quite well. The two middle C. Grimes bullets are my 33cal. competition bullets. Left one is 225gr and right one is 245gr. Both would shoot one-hole groups at 100 yards. I used the 245gr bullet for all my competition at both 100 and 200 yards. I used the Douglas 1-16 twist barrel. I have a number of rifles won in competition to prove the 16 twist will handle the heaver bullet.

I have a pair of 33-47 's with 1-16 that shoot long bullets very well.I only shot it in one match. It shot well on the slighter targets  but the guy steering the rifle didn't do so well on the record targets!

would someone explain to me a 33-47.
I have 33-40 which can only shoot breach seated. which to me is kind of a drawback when shooting offhand. takes me a while with no mechanical seater.
thanks for any help.   Dennis

I believe that I would actually call yours a 33/47, since it doesn't have a neck and a 33/40 one with a neck.

As I have seen it, through out the years, most target rifles, were called 33/47's.

I believe the 33/47 comes from the amount of BP the case will hold.

I also shoot a 33 but, it's on a 357 Max case, with a 15 twist.
