.22 caliber holes at 200 yd

I have a Kowa 77 spotting scope with a 25X extended eye relief eyepiece and I am not able to resolve .22 caliber holes at 200 yards. Some of this may have something to do with my 79-year-old eyes.  Undecided A new variable eyepiece for my Kowa 77 cost $649 and for $50 more I can buy a new 65 Vortex Razor. Does anybody have a 65 Vortex Razor and can you resolve 22 caliber holes at 200 yd? Not looking for other recommendations because I have lots of Cabela's points and can redeem them for a new Razor. Thanks

I have thinking a drone with a decent camera connected to my phone might be the solution.

Just buy a target camera, will come out cheaper.  Longshot comes to mind.

My shooting companions & I struggled with .22 holes at 200 for years.  Then last year, Mark bought one of those target camera things that can be displayed remotely on a laptop.  Amazing!  If the light was right and I didn't blink, I could see a bullet swoop down and hit the target.

Bob,
In my experience the Vortex is not the solution (I have three different ones). The new Fluorite lenses in the Kowa's is the real answer for our eyes... but hmmm...$$$  I've looked through a couple of these and they are good... The higher magnification Kowa lens would be my vote.   The other options are Leica, Swarovski, Hensoldt (if you can find one).  Just being a bit of a wise guy here... Wink

I went down the rabbit hole a few years back and spent the money on a Leica, with it I can pick out 22 holes on the black bull at 200.  It's the only glass I own that allows me to do that.

Probably won't spend money on Fluorite so the target cam will be one of the next things.

Before buying another scope I would start with a red filter to hold over the eye piece.

I just shot a match at 200 yds and 300 yds with 22 rifles. I had a Kowa 77 with the 25 LER eyepiece. We could see 22 holes at 200 in the white well but many in the black were hard to see. We could see some in the white at 300 but none in the black. Thanks for pit service.

Seeing 22 holes at 200 yds with any scope is a problem. Light conditions have a big influence on your ability to see the holes, the intensity, direction, etc.

I have a friend with the Vortex Razor 65. We have used it  and it is a good scope but may not help as much as you would like. As some have said the camera may be a better solution and it is cheaper than the highest quality glass.

The vortex razor is an excellent scope, but if you do burn some Cabela points be sure to get the gen 2, so Thai if at some point you want the moa recticle eyepiece you can find one.
The Caldwell target camera system works great if your shooting on your own range. It has video, and if you put the input on the target right will give you back group size. You can also number your shots. Works good for load development

Bob,
I have the same scope and eyepiece as you. I couldn’t see holes in the black either. Then I discovered there were no holes in the black! 😜

something that might help some is get some targets that do not have the black center. The green ones will help you to see the holed a bit better.

Yeah, a 77 with the 25 ELR can be a challenge, depending on the backstop and lighting. HP holes being significantly better than rimfire.

I upgraded to an 88 ...

Holy free-holee ...

Big chunk o' change, and extra bulk. And worth it all.

You might try contacting NASA and asking about one of their orbiting telescopes.  That should work out.

History says those 88s made a heck of a hole.
