Jack, I'm talking about the cover plates, that are on the bottom of the scope, just forward of the rear turret.

The forward one is the parallax adjustment, the one near the turret, is the one to adjust focus for the + hairs.

If you rotate the scope 180°, and level the + hairs, you'll be able to get at them, easily.

I wondered what those little plates were. Thanks Frank

I decided to use my black Mossberg instead of the brass one.  Not quite as garish.  I am hoping to join the local club BP group for a few of their matches next year. 100 and 200 yds only. Then I can take on Rick Moritz at Tacoma if that match occurs.

That Capitol City BP group looks like a good bunch of shooters.
I see Ken K. and Dick E. are shooting with them now.
Should have some good competition.
Mike Nesbitt  sends out their match results in his" American Sharps Shooter " newsletter.

I stopped by one of the matches where Ken ws shooting.  I haven't run into Dick yet.  I usually see most of the group if I go to the range on Wednesday when they practice shooting.  Not targets mind you, mostly shooting the bull.  Mike is quite the character.  I think he owns more C Sharps rifles than anyone.  A few of them are migrating to rollers.  I traded a Swedish roller and cash for a nice chrome plated forged DST Ballard with a 30 Wesson barrel that is my offhand match rifle.  The rollers got the royal treatment and is now a great looking match rifle.  I will have to see if my old bones will let me shoot sitting anymore.  At least they allow short stools and scopes. I see that Dick was shooting something besides his Browning HW

This 40-65 will shoot!
I got serious today after getting all my brass fire formed and loaded up a few different BP loads.  I had 4 variations of loads.  The Swiss 1.5 (55 gr) with CCI primers did the best with 2 different bullets.  Overall I had a couple of 1-1/4" 100 yd 4 shot groups and a couple of 2-3/4" 4 shot groups at 200 yds.  The brass 4x Mossberg is not very bright and I could not see the 200 yd ISSA red offhand target very well.  I need to see if I can clean the lenses and also try my Heilman tang sight.
Here is the best group at 200 yds.  Shot 1 was low. The last 3 went into 1"   The Lyman Snover bullets are slightly tipping.

Looks like you're making good progress Jack!
The Snover bullet always tipped slightly fired from my Browning 1885 40-65 also whether I was shooting at 200yds or 500yds.
But they were so accurate I didn't worry about it.

Thanks Steve

Next step is to do one last test using all 3 bullets I have.  Then load development is over.  I will use my 14x Unertl next time since I can use that at Tacoma against Rick Moritz if we shoot the BP match again.

It shoots.

I have been shooting the 40-65 high wall at 200 yds finally after fire forming the brass.  It has been doing well with most groups running under 3".  This is the best so far shot this morning in gloomy conditions with a 14x scope.

That's interesting Jack!  That was the first mold I used with my Shiloh and it didn't shoot very well at all.  When I switched to the Saeco #740 it was an enormous improvement.  Looks like we have opposite guns Smiley.

I'm glad that is working for you.  That's some nice shooting!

Chris.
