Still a work in progress.  I reamed the chamber out today and now I can shoot it.  The crescent buttstock came with the rifle with a 30-40 Krag barrel.  The action is a coil spring but the 30-40 barrel has the flat spring dovetail.  I had an new? eBay purchased 40-65 barrel with no flats spring dovetail.  I finally got around to installing it on this action.  The forend is held on by a screw and is too far forward.  I will either make a new forend for the #4 weight barrel or cut a dovetail in the right location. The PB buttstock is an option and is made for a straight grip.  Someone filled the upper tang sight hole and sanded it down before refinishing.  I hope I can get it out without having to re-tap the hole.  The rifle comes in at just over 11 lbs as it.

That's a beautiful little rifle there Jack.  I only have experience with Shiloh's chamber, but if yours is anything like it ( about 0.050" freebore, 2.5 degrees per side taper ), then I'd recommend finding a Saeco #740 mold.  For 200-300 yards it is exceptionally good.

If you pull the lower tang and setup the action to level the top tang you can drill the plug screw out from the underside. I've found doing it this way usually catches the screw and the direction of the drill press will spin it out at some point before it breaks through the end of the screw.
Tope side also works if you have a left hand drill bit, and a hand drill you can run reversed.

I fitted the PG buttstock and added scope blocks.  Here she is with my Stevens 368 scope with Winchester A5 mounts.

I didn't find anything at the gun show (well I did get some cookies) so I am going to order the RCBS Shiloh die set.  I did kludge together a 405 Win expander in a 45-70 die body and I should be able to put together a seater combo to load up the 40 cases that I sized with a borrowed set of 40-65 dies and get the brass fire formed.  The screw hole in the barrel is not at Winchester standard position so the forearm is 1/4" or se too far forward.  I think I will work on making a new forend and if I mess that uo, I will cut a dovetail in the stock. The forend I sanded out is a bit to thin at the front in my opinion. I can shoot it as is so a new forend is not a high priority.  I would like to use my Mossberg scope (the Stevens has a post), but the blocks are too short to allow the angled rear mount screw to clear the barrel. I will have to look through my blocks to see if I have a taller set with the dual Unertl cup and Winchester holes.

In response to Frank's question, it has a .410 groove and is 1 14 twist.  Barrel is 31 inches.
