question about new TC Contender/Encore
Nov 11th, 2024 at 10:37am
Print Post
About a year ago in the NRA publication there was an article about the re-introduction of the Thompson Center Contender and Encore firearms .
They were to be available 10/24.  I have been looking for them to see if the project did actually materialize but I do not see anything available from the major distributors.
I am searching the TC brand so perhaps that has changed with the new owner of the company.  Can someone please steer me in the right direction for information on the new TC products?

If you look around on YouTube the new owner has put up quite a few videos about various models but nothing specific about exact models that will be made or release dates.
If I had to guess I would say the Encore will be first as it is the most versatile.

I am wondering if new barrels will be compatible with older frames for both the contender and encore.

According to the reports from the new owner, Encore barrels and actions will be completely interchangeable.

They haven’t yet mentioned Contenders, but I would be awfully surprised if those will be changed once they are reintroduced.

Currently they are talking only about Encores, an inline muzzleloader, and one of their bolt actions.

I have 9 Encore barrels, 3 are custom and the rest are factory. I “need” another 4 or 5…..ahem.

The last I heard new products should not be out until the first quarter of 2025.
This is an informative video on the rebirth of TC.

I have several barrels in each frame type. Only pistol barrels on the contender frame and only rifle barrels on the encore frame.
I really like them and think they are the best switch barrel available.
I would like to see them add the TCR rifles to the new production list.  Those were very accurate rifles and added elegance to the TC switch barrel system.
I am a 22 Hornet fan and have had dozens of 22 Hornet rifles always looking for a better one.  The TCR 22 Hornet rifle I had was one of the most accurate 22 Hornets I have ever had.
I now have a Contender 10" round barrel in 22 hornet and I believe it will shoot better than my ability to shoot it.

I could be wrong, I often am, but I believe all the molds and tooling for the TCR were destroyed in the disastrous fire that occurred in 1997. Bringing it back would be a major investment I’m afraid.

There may have been more than one fire at TC, but my Google-fu didn’t show anything other than the ‘97 fire.

I read somewhere that the new owner is the old original owner.

Have seen this Greg Ritz fellow for many years and he has used T/C firearms for many years. I think he is legit and the real deal. I hope he can bring it back to what it once was.
