Hervey Lovell 1885 Winchester

Had the opportunity to pick up a high wall made by Hervey Lovell - it was sold as a 22 hornet - after I dropped a hornet shell in the chamber with zero resistance, I chamber casted and found it is a 2RLovelll.  The rifle shoots great with 40 gr nosler and 12.5 gr of lil gun with nice light pressure load.  It’s an honor to own a piece of varmint history - and to preserve and shoot it!

I like it. It's definitely a classic varmint rifle. Enjoy.  Dale.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

A very nice old varmint rifle, and very well done.

Hervey was a skilled craftsman. I've owned a couple of his rifles, currently a single shot Krag conversion in .22 Maximum Lovell.

I'll bet the R2 is nice. My 44 1/2 came with a Hauck barrel in R2 that had been opened up to the last version of the .219 Donaldson Wasp way back when. I don't know if the R2 throat had been shot out or they just wanted more oomph.
But the way it shoots now I'm sure the R2 was great also.

Very nice old piece. Wish my club had a shooting "house" like that.
